Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart and soul of this organization. We have a dedicated volunteer steering committee that assists with the Rising Stars (1st and 2nd Grade) and Stars to Be (3rd - 5th Grade) productions at Loma Prieta Elementary School; the Shining Stars program at CT English Middle School, and the summer stage program.
Our wide base of volunteer support helps us sustain the program. Volunteers participate in all aspects of our productions, including overall management, scheduling, handling critical production staff assignments, and providing the needed manpower to set up our multi-purpose facility as a theatre for each production. We need help year round, but we are especially light on volunteers during the summer months as we work on summer camps and creating our main stage show. If you would like to help us during any (or all) of our shows, we would love to hear from you! No experience necessary!
Volunteer Roles
In addition to welcoming volunteers to help with all aspects of our productions, Theatre in the Mountains has some specific volunteer roles that we look to fill during each season.
Producer / Production Coordinator
Producers make shows happen! The most critical group that makes Theatre in the Mountains' shows possible is our production team. These volunteers get a front row seat to the full process of creating theater magic for our kids and community. Our production team, supported by the TIM Steering Committee, is the liaison between the artistic staff, parents, and team leads. Serving as a Producer is a great way to get involved, support your kids, meet other parents and performers, and utilize organizational, creative, and interpersonal skills.
Producers run weekly or bi-weekly production meetings to check in about the progress of all aspects of the production including sets, props, makeup, costumes, rehearsals, and box office. We aim for 3-4 producers for each show to divide up the tasks and let everyone work to their strengths. There is absolutely no experience or theatrical knowledge required (although this is a great place for people who do have either) and all our producers learn together and help each other to get from pre-production to closing night. This role gives you a chance to develop friendships, be a part of your kids’ activities, engage with the community, and celebrate what you see on stage with a new appreciation of what it took to get there.
Volunteer Coordinator
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for making sure all the jobs for a show get filled, and for getting all our volunteers to the right place at the right time. This role is best for someone organized, has good communication skills and is comfortable working with show families to ensure they meet their volunteer commitments.
Costume Coordinator
Working with the Costume Designer, the Costume Coordinator helps determine which of the costume elements need to be constructed, purchased, or borrowed and is responsible for organizing costume workshops, costume parade and costuming for Tech Week and performances. This role also is involved with obtaining costume pieces, accessories, and materials. Experience with clothing construction is highly beneficial for this role, but not necessary.
Prop Coordinator / Props Master
The Prop Coordinator is in charge of all props. The Prop Coordinator will create a list of props by working with the Director and use volunteers to buy, borrow, or create them. Any borrowed items are tracked by the Prop Coordinator, protected from damage during the show, and returned to the owners promptly afterward. No specific experience required ,but DIY/Craft experience is a big plus.
Make-Up & Hair Designer
Works with the Artistic Staff to create make-up and hair designs for the show. Purchases any necessary items for the show and communicates instructions to cast families. Works with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers for dress rehearsal, photo shoot, and performances. Conducts training for volunteers. Experience with hair and make-up, especially for theater, is helpful.
Concessions Coordinator
In charge of food concessions for performances. Responsible for creating a menu and buying or coordinating donations of the food items, condiments, and supplies. No specific experience required.
Flower Coordinator
Responsible for ordering flowers to be delivered during tech week and working with volunteers to package and sell flowers for cast members at each performance. No specific experience required.
